C. Willard Horner received his angel wings on May 18, 2011 at his Swedesboro home. Born March 2, 1916 he was a life long resident of Swedesboro, NJ.rnrnWillard devoted his life to family and farming, he was fortunate to spend his lifetime fully immersed in his one time passion, vegetable farming. He was known as the “Eggplant King” in the 60’s for growing his fabulous Black Beauties. He hired any young person who wanted to work, instilling good work ethics and values. As we reminisced in his last days, he said one year he hired 15 teenagers. They will always have those memories of the farm and “Uncle Will”.rnrnHaving the great fortune of living on this earth for 95 years; Willard experienced the invention of farm tractors, having previously worked the fields with plow horses as well as seeing all the modern utilities including indoor plumbing being developed.rnrnThe farm at 824 Kings Highway was Willard’s birthplace as well as his home for 85 years before the sale after Will Jr. passed away in 1999.rnrnBeing the oldest member of the Tall Pines Gun Club for years, Willard enjoyed the sport of hunting as well as fellowship with the members.rnrnWillard’s latest joy was the birth of his Great Grandson, Jack W. Targett . He always enjoyed his visits with Jack and throwing stones in the lake.rnrnWillard was a friend to all who knew him; a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather. Willard was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Florence Horner, his brother Jake, wife Cecilia and son Willard Jr. He is survived by his Daughter, Donna Golt, Grandson, William Targett, his wife Allison and Great Grandson Jack all of North East, MD. Also surviving is his faithful companion of many years, Mildred Dersch and many Nieces and Nephews. rnrnCome celebrate 95 Phillies rooting years Saturday, May 21 from 10 AM at Daley Life Celebration Studio, 1518 Kings Hwy., Swedesboro, NJ where there will be a 11AM Service.
