Charles Beale

Charles Beale

Charles had the ability to balance his hardworking nature with an appreciation for the simple things in life. He served as the registrar for the Fels Institute of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. During his 52 year tenure he helped prepare generations of the world’s leaders. But after the work day, Charles always found a way to keep himself busy. Even in his elder years he was still making the marathon-like trek to collect the mail at his Alabama home as well as mowing the lawn in nothing less proper than a dress shirt and tie. As consistent as Charles was about his professional attire he was just as certain to have a sweet tooth. Whether it was honey buns, Krispy Kreme or a treat from McDonald’s he knew that a proper diet consisted of more than just salad. But, whether it was a bit of junk food, an episode of Perry Mason, feeding the animals at the zoo or just petting the family cat and dog he knew that these little things bring a large amount of joy.

Before her passing in 2010, Charles shared 58 years of marriage with his beloved wife Dorothy. Together their lives were blessed by two daughters, Donna Gasper (William) of Alabama and Carol Hunter (Steven) of Riverside; 5 grandchildren: Ashley, Bonnie, Robert, Stevie, and Kristen (Tom); and 8 great-grandchildren: Hunter, O’Reilly, Mason, Alijah, Angelina, Tommy, Sophia and Brooke. He is also survived by her niece, Karen Prince (Jim).
