Frances “Fran” C. McHugh

“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” – JFK. Never one to sit and wait for change, Fran was always the one to get involved. Led by her deep spirituality, there was nothing she wouldn’t volunteer for at St. Casimir Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, and Extraordinary Minister, visited the sick with the Samaritans, and even became computer literate to help manage paperwork. When her grandson was born with ichthyosis, she immediately jumped into action. She tracked down every shred of information on the condition, and it wasn’t long until she became president of the foundation. If there was an issue and a letter to be written, whether to a congressman, mayor or Dear Abby, she always had her typewriter ready.rnIn the 1940s, Fran became the secretary for a young man named George “Pete” McHugh. It wouldn’t be long until their relationship bloomed into a 65 year marriage. Their lives were blessed by the addition of their children: Peter (Louise) of VA, Shelly Licursi (Paul) of Cinnaminson and Claire McHugh (Chuck Sides) of Moorestown. With a never ending supply of energy, she never had a problem keeping up with her 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Fran is also survived by her sister Gloria Reed of Cinnaminson.rnCome celebrate 88 motivated years Thursday 6-8 PM and Friday 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10:30 AM at St. Casimir Church, Riverside. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
