Joseph “Sprocks” Giardinelli

Joseph “Sprocks” Giardinelli

There were two things Joe always had; a tireless work ethic and a one-liner for any situation. At age eighteen he entered the U.S. Army. His career in the Philadelphia Carpenter’s Union Local 1050 lasted 60 years, where he was known as “Sprockets”. Originally from South Philly, one of six children, it’s no surprise he involved as a Mummer, and he continued on with them for many years after moving to Delran. But Joe always enjoyed being social. He was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. He attended a men’s retreat in Malvern, Pa for 54 consecutive years. Since retiring, his mornings always started with friends and a coffee at the local McDonald’s. rnIn the early 1950’s, it took a bit of wooing on Joe’s part, but he was able to win over a young woman named Elizabeth (nee Sellers). In their 57 years together, they were blessed with five children: Joseph (Linda) of Cherry Hill, Beverly Ceriale (Mark Missimer) of Riverside, the late John (Robin), Billy (Jodi) of Riverside and Donna Beam (Mike) of Fl, as well as their 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.rnCome celebrate Joe’s 81 years (Mar. 18, 1930-Apr. 4, 2011) Friday 7-9PM and Saturday 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM at Resurrection Parish, Holy Name Site, Delran. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park.rn –
