June Nelson (nee Horton)

June Nelson (nee Horton)

If it’s true that enthusiasm is contagious, June was a carrier. Never less than continuously feisty, she brought a certain zeal to everything she did. She worked for Acme and Sam’s Club doing demos, but she always turned it into more of a social affair. Whenever she attended an event at the Riverside Turners, you could be assured that she and her sisters would be doing their own dance, the “Horton Shuffle”. Along with her husband, Bob, she set out to see some sights in their pop up camper; they made it to every state except three. Although she loved the Phillies and knew nearly every stat about the team, her favorite was college basketball. But, the enthusiasm for everything else paled when compared to the grandchildren. She loved to babysit them, even having some stay all summer, helped raise several of them and even taught them to sing; given, it was usually not top 40 hits, rather songs like “Dance With The Dolly With The Hole In Her Stocking”.
June is survived by her husband, Bob of Tuckerton, her children: Dianne Kipp (Dennis Dougherty) of MI, Marlene Crosthwait (Kenny) of TN, Robert Cowan (Michelle) of Hammonton, Janice Cowan of Riverside, Craig Nelson (Sue) of Marlton and Bobby Nelson (Robin) of Gloucester City, as well as by her 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and her sister, Elsie Mollineaux.
Come celebrate June’s 86 enthusiastic years (Sep. 1, 1927-Oct. 5, 2013) Friday from 10 AM at the First Moravian Church 228 East Washington St., Riverside, where the service will be at 11. Interment to follow in Monument Cemetery, Beverly. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the church via PO Box 214, Riverside, NJ 08075. –
