Melvin J Cook

Melvin J Cook

Melvin got his exercise daily: he always walked with the Lord. His faith in God was unfaltering, and as a result he always had an active church and prayer life. He was a charter member of Holy Name Church and even helped to, literally, lay the corner stone. When he took vacations, many times it was to holy shrines or spiritual retreats. His strong belief certainly kept him from worrying: “let the chips fall where they may” was one of his many sayings. Having grown up on a farm in Albany, NY he developed a strong work ethic. But it was his job with Mobil that would eventually bring him to Delran. rn After proudly serving the Army during WWII, Melvin took a job in a bank. Although he eventually left to work elsewhere, he took one of the tellers with him. A young woman named Rita (nee Powers) had caught his eye, and they were soon married. Before her passing in 1992, their lives were blessed by their children: James of Whiting, Ann Marie Lento of East Brunswick, Joseph (Maureen) of Marlton and Edmund (Mary) of Cinnaminson, and again by their seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Melvin is predeceased by his great-granddaughter Gwen.rn Come celebrate Melvin’s 94 spiritual years (Nov. 11, 1916-May 31, 2011) Saturday from 9:30 AM at Resurrection Parish, Holy Name Site, 260 Conrow Rd., Delran, NJ 08075, where Mass of the Christian Burial will follow at 10:30. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Church of the Holy Name at the above address. rn –
