Sam Maccarone

(Sep 28, 1942 to Feb 2, 2013)

As first born son and grandson in his family, Sam was used to being center of attention. But that’s not the reason that he served as Mayor of Woolwich Twp. Community service was just part of his DNA. His father served before him, his son currently holds the position. Sam had the ability to find common ground and bring the opposing sides together. In addition he served on the Woolwich Zoning Board for 10 Years, Agway and Swedesboro Auction Boards of Directors, St. Joseph’s and St. Alfio’s Committees. Somehow he managed to squeeze in a little farming. He was raised on a farm and as a young man purchased his own on Oldmans Creek Road. If he wasn’t farming he was either thinking or talking about it. After retiring in 2000 he didn’t let his lifetime of knowledge go to waste. He joked that his second career was as a “farming consultant“, which really meant that he spent his days driving around in his truck visiting his friend‘s farms. Winters found him hunting, skiing and working as Mr. Fix It. He’d service all his trucks, tractors and plows. Sam could give you a rundown on any current events: any news channel was fine as long as it was Fox. His cooking put all the other members of the Romeo Club (Retired old men eating out) to shame and he was steady pitcher for the annual Feaster/Maccarone Easter softball games.rnrnSue Feaster met Sam at a family Baptism when they were teens. January 7th found them celebrating 46 years of marriage. More Baptisms would follow for their 4 children: twins; Joseph (Michelle) and Sam Jr. (Nancy), Donna, and John (Heather); and for his 6 gently teased grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers: Joseph and Anthony, and sisters, Mary String and Joanne Saia. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Antoinette and a sister, Rosemarie.rnrnCome celebrate 70 farming years Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm and Thursday from 9:30am at St. Joseph’s Church, Swedesboro where Mass of Christian Burial will at 11am.
