Shirley Woodington

Whoever said silence is golden had clearly never met Shirley. She loved being around people and could chit-chat with just about anyone. She was always up for a game of pinochle or to track down a yard sale. At her home in Delran she could often be found rooting for the Phillies, watching General Hospital, reading a Louis Lamour novel or listening to some Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. But, what she loved most of all was her family. That’s why she was always ready to head off on a hunting, fishing or camping trip on the family’s land up in Chatsworth and it was even more apparent by the way she so enjoyed spoiling the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As a young woman Shirley “accidently” stepped on the foot of her neighbor, Elmer, just for an excuse to introduce herself. Before long their 62 years of marriage would begin. Before his passing in 2011 their lives were blessed by their children: Norman “Glenn” (Joyce) of Mt. Holly, Gary (Karen) of Burlington, Linda Gilbert (Bob) of Delran, Greg (Cynthia Brown) of Manahawkin and Gordon (Robin) of Mt. Ephraim. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and her sister, Dorothy Yansick of Delran.
Come celebrate Shirley’s 79 wonderful years (Feb. 16, 1934-Aug. 18, 2013) Friday from 6 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 8. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Samaritan Hospice 5 Eves Dr., Suite 300 Marlton, NJ 08053. –
