Harriette – Zarfoss

A depression era upbringing on the farm yielded a woman with a can do attitude. She left the farm to earn a teaching degree from Penn State University. Her first teaching position was in Maytown, PA where she met Harold a fellow teacher. Their marriage was blessed by three sons: Lewis Harold (Diane) of Dayton, MD, Stephen of Lake Gilman, Richard (Beth) of Burke, VA; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Harriette was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Swedesboro where she taught Sunday School, participated in the church suppers, and was involved in the women’s group. In the late forties she and Harold built a summer cottage on Lake Gilman in Mullica Hill. Following her retirement from teaching Home Economics at West Deptford High School she and Harold retired to Lake Gilman to enjoy a little gardening, a daily swim, and visits from family. In later years, winters were spent in Deming NM where they enjoyed the warm southwestern weather and wonderful neighbors and visits from family.rnCome celebrate 95 teaching years Thursday 6 to 8PM and Friday from 9AM at Daley Life Celebration Studio where the Service will be at 10AM.
