Suzanne Rahenkamp

Sue was meant to be a wife, mom and grandmother. If her son looked over his shoulder, he was likely to see her ducking behind a bush while she kept a watchful eye on him and was the quintessential den/scout mother. She took in her nephew in his teen years, adding a second teenager to the family.

As a grandmother she took it to a new level; a built-in caregiver and babysitter. For her husband she was his lifelong support network and bookkeeper for his development of Hartford Corners and Newtowns, Landing. The daughter of Walter and Margaret Charles of Springfield, NJ, the early years found her accompanying John to Michigan State and Penn for his studies (earning as they often joked a PHT – putting husband through!) and the later years found her running the household. She was also active in her community serving on the school board and active for 25 years in the Delanco Women’s Club, serving as Archivist and President for many years. Bake sales were never so popular as when she supplied her cookies, cakes and pies. For fun she enjoyed golf, tennis, bowling (with numerous 200+ games) and sailed; an athlete from the days of her youth. She met a handsome boy named John in the 2nd grade and reconnected with him after graduation. They’d share a 67-year marriage blessed by a son, Creigh (Vicki) and later by grandchildren, Karl, Gretchen (Penn) and Morgan and great grandchildren, Wyatt, Emmitt, Amato and Ami. She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Herman) and her nieces Cindy and Wendy (Moyers), and her Nephew Eric.

Come celebrate 87 great years Monday July 8th, from 5pm to 7pm at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside.

Interment to follow at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Springfield NJ on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 1pm.
