David knew that no act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted. That may be why he was so generous with his time. If a friend needed help with their home, he would be there ready to completely remodel it. When asked to help with a 24 hour charity event, David was more than happy to sell hotdogs and sleep in a tent. Given, he was always looking for an excuse to go camping. Born with an eye for detail, he used that skill during his 22 years as a display designer for Sea Gull Lighting, his remodeling projects and even when he took inventory before going to the grocery store. And although he always rooted for the Phillies, he rooted more for his daughter, having coached her since she played T Ball, and for his son while attending all of his sporting events.rnIn the late 1980s David met a co-worker named Terry (nee Slimm), and although it would take a bit of wooing, he eventually won her heart. His life was further blessed by his daughter Deborah of Edgewater Park, his son Kerry Slimm of Philadelphia and his grandson Tyler Ethan Slimm. He is survived by his mother Betty McCarty of Edgewater Park, sisters; Gail Bentley (John) of Edgewater Park and Kathy Kersey (Tommy) of Riverside, brother Mathew and nephew Cailen McCarty of Arizona, nephew Eric Bentley, and great-niece Madison N. Bentley. He is also survived by his other nieces and nephews.rnCome celebrate David’s 50 generous years (5/1/1960-9/8/2010) on Sunday from 6-8 PM and Monday from 10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will follow at 11 AM.
