Good fathers make good sons, and good daughters. Being a dad was the most important responsibility in John’s life. You barely needed to ask about his kids, and he would tell all who would listen how proud he was of their accomplishments. From the days when he would pack up his daughters, and most the children in the neighborhood, to head off for a day at Riverdel Swim Club, to the many hunting trips he took with his son John, he knew his time was best spent with them. How was he always ready with support and advise? “That’s why I’m the Father”, he’d say. Having instilled in his kids the importance of education, his proudest moment came when he hung their diplomas on the wall. rnAt his home in Riverside, he could often be found enjoying an afternoon on the porch, greeting all who passed with a warm smile and a wave. And although he rooted for the Giants and the Yankees deep in Eagles Country, people liked him anyway. rnJohn was blessed by his children: John, Jr. of Riverside, Laura and Sarah, both of Mt. Laurel, and Kristin Napolitano and her husband David, who was more of a son than a son-in-law to John, of Mays Landing. All four kids vied for who was number one to their dad, but the title was quickly bestowed when he was blessed by his granddaughter, Grace Mary Napolitano.rnCome celebrate John’s 64 fatherly years (9/10/1946-11/3/2010) Saturday from 4-7 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro St. Riverside, NJ 08075, and on Monday from 9-10:30 AM at the Synowiecki Funeral Home, 56 Carteret Ave, Carteret, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Carteret. Interment at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. For John, his granddaughter’s education was more important than flowers, so please make memorial donations for Grace Mary’s education to Kristin Napolitano at the Sweeney funeral home’s address.rn
