Hugh J. McIntyre

Einstein once noted “try not to become a man of success, rather become a man of value”. Instilled with a deep sense of integrity, Hugh always did the right thing. Growing up in Philadelphia he was a member of the White Hats, a group of young men with a strong sense of faith and family, who were dedicated to their neighborhood and their parish. After his father had passed, he took it upon himself to provide for his mother and sisters. When blessed with a family of his own, all his energy was devoted to them. Working 2 jobs, 6 days a week, imparted by example his unyielding work ethic. Regardless of the distance, everyone was immediate family to him. Whether it be his cousins in Philadelphia or his relatives in his birthplace of Donegal, Ireland, they all held the same place in his heart. rnOn a trip to Wildwood in the 1950s, Hugh met a young woman named Jean (nee DeWald). Perhaps fate intervened when they crossed paths again the following summer. After they were married in 1956, their lives were blessed by their children: Lyn Rao (Bill) of FL., Maureen Lankford (Ken) of Medford, Thomas (Antoinette Ventura) of West Deptford, Karen McIntyre-Snow of Riverside and Steven (Erica Ouellette) of Delran, and again by their 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Mary Carr of PA. rnCome celebrate 87 family oriented years (Nov. 28, 1922-Feb. 12, 2010) Monday 6-8 PM at the Sweeney Funeral Home Riverside, and again Tuesday from 10 AM at St. Peter’s Church, Riverside where Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11. Interment private. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in Hugh’s honor to the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Jesus the Good Sheppard Parish 101 Middleton St. Riverside, NJ 08075.rn
