Robert M Walsh was born in Jersey City, NJ on May 1, 1947, to Doris R Kauffman and William J Walsh. His father was a cameraman, so they moved around several times during his childhood, including Opa-locka, FL and Detroit, MI. He excelled in sports, especially baseball, which he played when he attended Western Michigan University. Shortly after college, he married his first wife, Vivian, and they lived in Houston, TX and Newnan, GA.
His first job out of college was Ross Laboratory where he sold Similac. Secondly, he took a position with Northwestern Mutual to provide Insurance. Not long after these jobs, he embarked on his lifelong journey with the Seafood Industry. He has brokered seafood, such as Crabs, Lobster, Mullet Roe, Shrimp and Tuna out of Argentina, Bahama’s, Mexico, Philippines and the United States. In addition, he owned several Seafood Markets and Restaurants, including Barnacle Bob’s Seafood Boatique.
In 2003, he married his second wife, Joanne, and together they started a crabmeat plant in Baja California Sur, Mexico, called Dolphin Blue Crabs, SA de CV, along with a Restaurant, Baja’s Seafood & Oyster Bar, in Houston, TX. He retired in 2013 and resided with Joanne in New Jersey. He also took great joy in donning the Santa suit, and often his Christmas was the gift of delighting many families and children.
Robert led a colorful life and found humor even through hard times. He had an infectious smile and drew people to him. He had a love for animals and a place in his heart for the underprivileged. He will be greatly missed.
Robert is survived by: his wife, Joanne Kunkel Walsh; his son, Steve A Walsh along with his wife Anna, and son Jaidon; his son, Robert M Walsh, Jr, along with his daughter Brooke; his stepson, John E Howell, along with his wife Natalie, son Marcus and daughter Taylor; his stepdaughter, Abigail E Howell, along with her daughter Alexis;his sister, Donna Morgan.
Come celebrate 71 years on Sunday July 29, from 2:00 to 2:30p.m. at the Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside NJ, where there will be a service at 2:30p.m.
