Edgewater Park, NJ – Betty Jane McCarty, 85, Beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend moved on from this earth to be with her Lord on Monday June 28, 2021. Betty grew up in Baltimore, MD where she met her husband Warren “Mike” McCarty on a blind date. They would marry within months on June 13,1953 and shared a 39-year marriage blessed with five children. They moved to Riverside, NJ in 1977.
Betty is survived by two children: Gail Bentley (John), of Edgewater Park; Mathew McCarty (Ashley), of Plano, TX. She is also survived by her sisters Dolores McNally, Linda Grussemeyer, and by four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren along with daughter-in-law Terry McCarty, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was predeceased by her loving husband in1992 and by three of her children: Warren Jr (Sonny), David, Kathy Kersey and sister Shirley Reese.
Betty enjoyed cooking and baking. She never met a steamed crab or crab cake she didn’t like. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time sitting outside on nice days. If she was watching TV you could find her flipping to the Hallmark Channel, HGTV, or The Young and the Restless to name a few favorites. But most importantly, Betty’s greatest treasures were her family and friends. She was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. As her health declined, you would often hear her repeat how much she loved you. But there was never a doubt in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, July 8, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Sweeney Funeral Home in Riverside, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Tunnels to Towers Foundation at https://t2t.org. Interment private.
