Jean H Boles

Long-time Riverside resident Jean H. Boles passed away on May 20th at 4 p.m. in her home surrounded by her son Mark and daughter Mary Catherine.

Jean was born on June 22nd, 1926, on the second floor of the home in which she resided her entire life. Jean attended St. Peter’s grade school and was a proud graduate of Riverside High School in 1944 where she was class secretary and participated in many sports. After high school, Jean’s father and two brothers converted the front of their home into a luncheonette that Jean would eventually own and run. Jean’s Luncheonette became a popular local hangout in Riverside where one could purchase food, play pinball, dance to the jukebox, and of course drink some Tak-A-Boost. Jean eventually closed the store and worked part-time driving for the Moorestown School District. Over the years, Jean enjoyed and spent many summers at her home in Margate, celebrating birthdays and numerous “crabfests” with family and friends. Jean retired at the age of seventy-three.

Jean was a long-time parishioner of St. Peter’s Church in Riverside. She also participated in her community, running for local government, and was an active member of both the Riverside Senior Citizens and Riverside Historical Society, holding the position of trustee there for over twenty years.

She is survived by her sons Richard and Mark and daughter Mary Catherine Souder and eight grandchildren: Owen, Rachael and Julia Boles and Regina Arriaza and Patrick, Matthew, Veronica and Maria Souder and many cousins and friends. Jean is predeceased by her husband of nearly 60 years, Hubert, and her beloved son, James.

Come celebrate 95 years on Thursday from 6 pm-8 pm and Friday from 9:30 am-10:30 am at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00 am at Resurrection Parish (St. Casimir site), Riverside. Interment St. Peters Cemetery, Riverside.
