Ray (Uncle Ray as he was known by so much of his family) was everyone’s favorite. He’d start off a conversation with a “Did you know?” and you could sit back and get a 30 minute lecture about whatever obscure knowledge was on his mind. He was into computers long before they were a thing: he graduated high school and attended Lincoln Tech, then off to work at Computerland and eventually landed a job in technical support for Fiserv. But he’d find his real calling as a dad. The guy who hadn’t really focused on sports (except for Karate) became the quintessential soccer dad as well as coaching, commissioner of E.P.A.A. soccer, and even running the hot dog stand when he wasn’t on the field. He loved guitars, York Barbells and motorcycles. You’d say his T-shirt had holes in it; Ray would say that it was out of his vintage collection. Ray was an old soul; if his T.V was on he’d be catching up with Andy Griffith or watching some B movies: Godzilla, Sharknado and wrestling. He was a long term Edgewater Park resident.
The handsome guy with long straggly hair and overalls with a broken strap met a girl named Terri. She thought she could fix him up; turns out he didn’t need too much fixing. They’d share a 40 year marriage blessed by three children: Randall (Marissa Siwak), Timothy and Brianna (Eric Zoll); and later by granddaughters, Isabella and Elianna, who adored their Pop. He was the son of Phyllis Rountos and Ralph Fitch.
Services are private at the convenience of the family. In Ray’s memory, give generously to the Red Cross (redcross.org); they brought SSgt. Timothy Fitch safely from active duty to his father’s side.
