Charles Monahan Jr.

Charles Monahan Jr.

A man of many names: Charles, Charlie, Bob, Hon, Dad, Poppop, and a few others. Bob was a loving husband, wonderful dad, and proud “Poppop” who exemplified unwavering dedication to his family. He was a pillar of strength and support, always there with open arms, sage advice, and a hearty laugh. He was known for his blunt, unfiltered honesty, always telling it like it was, a quality that endeared him to many.

Bob was born in Providence, RI, and grew up in Delanco. A class of 1963 graduate from Riverside High School, he played football and always knew he wanted to be a sailor. Soon after graduating, he enlisted in the Navy. He took immense pride in his Navy Service. It’s fitting that he passed away on the 248th birthday of the Navy, a testament to his enduring love for the water and his dedication to serving his country. His uniform is what stole the heart of his wife, Carol. They went on to spend 58 loving years together.

For over 30 years, Bob worked hard as an Electrical Supervisor at PSE&G. He was a workaholic who never turned down a shift to help out his coworkers. His colleagues gave him nicknames, a testament to the camaraderie and respect he garnered in the workplace. Those coworkers became lifelong friends and were there until the very end. Bob found contentment in keeping busy, whether it was doing yard work, fixing things around the house, or keeping things organized. He was a dot your I’s and cross your T’s kind of guy, anytime you needed something, he knew exactly where it was. He was a true “man’s man,” always ready to tackle any task that came his way. In his freetime he enjoyed the outdoors and being involved in his children’s lives. Bob coached his son, Chuck, and his baseball teams and always played “taxi dad” for his daughter, Tammy, and her friends. He would go fishing and hunting with his son and son-in-law. These trips formed a bond between them and created endless fish stories that will be cherished forever.

He found his true calling late in life when he became “Poppop”. For two weeks each summer, Bob would rent a house in LBI, so all his children and grandchildren could be in one place to create special memories as a family. Bob always made an effort to cheer on his granddaughters at their events, even the loud cheer competitions and Sports Nights. All he wanted was to be there for his girls. He especially never missed a football game for his grandson DJ. You would never miss “Poppop” supporting him at his alma mater, standing at the top of the bleachers with his Rams gear and tripod.

Needless to say, family was the thing that Bob was most proud of. He created and fostered a tribe filled with love, which he was surrounded by until the very end. Carol’s unconditional love and care is what carried Bob through his two year battle with his head held high.

Bob is survived by his wife Carol, and their two children Charles Monahan III (Debbie), and Tammy Jack (Don). His grandkids DJ, Makayla, Amberlee Jack, Carlee and Jillian Monahan. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Bob is Predeceased by his parents Myrtle and Charles Monahan Sr, siblings Patricia Pippin and John Monahan, and his beloved yorkie, Lizzy.

We would like to thank the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Willingboro, and the LabCorp girls in Moorestown for their kindness and compassion shown towards Bob.

Come celebrate 78 great years on Tuesday October 17th from 6pm-8pm and Wednesday October 18th from 10:30am-11:30am where there will be an 11:30am service at Sweeney Funeral Home 337 Bridgeboro St, Riverside.
