He was meant to be a dad: Bud or as some of his closest friends knew him by Bucky, maintained a lifetime closeness with his girls. More than just his children, they were his best friends. He was born and raised in Philadelphia but moved to Beverly with his young family in 1953. He’d manage to have a huge garden on a small property: beets, tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, cucumbers. Enough for the whole neighborhood. He’d later move to Maine and expand his garden into flowers as well. If he wasn’t in the garden, you’d most likely find him wood working. He crafted everything from cribs to toy boxes to little nik naks. He even built a Dulcimer. Playing it was a small part of his love of music: Bud loved classical, Christian and country and played in the bell choir. He’d later also become a master behind the stove. The residents of the Masonic home reaped the benefits of his never-ending pies and zucchini bread. He served our nation in the Navy; a WWII veteran serving aboard submarines. He was proud to share his experiences with younger generations running the submarine tours at Penn’s Landing. He was a member of the Bordentown Masons, the breakfast and veteran’s clubs at the Masonic Home and was previously a member of Beverly Fire Company #1 and St. Stephen’s Church.
A young Bud would meet a pretty girl at the Roller Rink. He and the late Edna would share a 62 year-marriage blessed by two daughters, June Dovey (Robert) and Lynne Willard (George ) and later by grandchildren, Michelle Chiemiego (Steven), Keith Dovey (Chrissy) Amanda Goldsmith (Jared)and Jonathan Willard (Kelsey)and great-grandchildren, Emma Chiemiego, Brandon and Samantha Dovey, Callum and Maira Goldsmith.
Come celebrate 98 great years March 15, 10 to 11 a.m. at Masonic Village at Burlington, 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlington where there will be an 11 a.m. service. Interment at a later date in Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta Maine.
