Francisco Joseph Bertino Jr.
Francisco Joseph Bertino passed away on March 20th, 2024 at Virtua Hospital, Mt. Holly. He was 91. Frank was born to Maria and Francesco Bertino on May 21, 1932 and was raised in Beverly/Edgewater Park with his six siblings.
Frank graduated from Burlington City High School in 1950 and joined the US Air Force in 1951 with an Honorable Discharge in 1955. He was employed by CF & I Steel in Roebling until it closed and then became a supervisor for the Buildings and Grounds Department of Burlington County.
When he retired he took several trips to California and Italy to visit family. He enjoyed day trips to Seaside, vacationing with family at Seaside, going to the casinos with Jim and Tommy, fishing, country music, scratching lottery tickets and playing his solitaire game. He was especially fond of family backyard picnics and working in his garden. Frank enjoyed television: watching game shows, westerns, lifetime movies, wrestling and cheering on or yelling at the Phillies and Eagles
Frank also had a love for his dogs Lucky and Buddy who were a big part of his life.He always had a smile on his face and a positive outlook on life and would help anyone in need. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
He is predeceased by his parents Francesco and Maria Bertino, and his siblings Anthony Bertino, Katherine Lucidi, Rose Simpkins, Benjamin Bertino, Josephine Bertino, and Salvatore Bertino.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children Donna Rivera and Frank (Deborah) Bertino, his grandchildren Alana (Tom) Rivera-Haas, Alessandra Burgos, Lauren (Jeff) Bodziony, Brooke Bertino, and Frank (Alex) Bertino, along with ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He will be missed by his cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Come celebrate 91 great years at Sweeney Funeral home (Beverly) on April 1st where there will be a 7pm-9pm visitation and Tuesday April 2nd from 9am-10am, with a 10:30 am mass at St. Joseph’s church, Beverly. Oh my. So sorry for the loss of your dad. He was a wonderful neighbor, and yes, he always had a smile on his face and would wave or stop to talk when out walking the dogs. And if you were driving at the end of Farmum, onto Railroad Ave, you better look to the left for him in that big car with flags flying. We always gave him the right of way. I have over 40 years of memories of that generation of Bertino brothers, sisters and families. He will be really missed. Thankful his memory lives on through family and friends still in the area/neighborhood. Praying for comfort and peace at this difficult time for all. Hugs. 😔🙏
Big Frank and I had many meaningful conversations at the fence in our back yards. We would talk about gardening and that he was still using tools him mom and dad had used when they were still alive. He would show me pictures of our homes from years ago and talk about the Great Depression. How everyone in the neighborhood would get together for nightly dinners at each other’s house. Big Frank had a huge impact on my life. From listening to him he showed me that a simple life is the best life. Don’t worry about what everyone else has and just be happy with what you have. Give each other a hand when needed and most of all just be happy you’re here for another day to be able to get outside and work on the garden, soak in the sun, and just be. I’ll miss stopping and talking to him during his daily walks. I’ll miss our backyard conversations. Most of all I am just happy he was able to live a long life and that he took time to talk to me whenever we saw each other. Frank you will be missed but a piece of you will live on through me and I have and will pass along what you taught me. So you will never really be gone but you will be missed.
