He was most at home relaxing on the Chesapeake. Of course, it wasn’t just Jerry having a great time on his boat (Nice Dilemma); everybody came down for his parties. It may have been a remnant of his earlier years when he served our country during Vietnam, proudly serving on board the USS John Basilone. In a restaurant you’d find him camped out at the bar. He figured that at a table you were limited to those you were seated with; at the bar you got to interact with the world. He was a bit of a night owl, loved watching old cowboy and war movies and loved just about any kind of seafood. Earlier years found him working as a technician for Bell Telephone and later a few of their subsidiaries.
His job at the phone company earned him more than just a paycheck. It’s there he’d meet a pretty girl named Christine Swietanski. They’d share a 52-year romance. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne (Peter) Coyle; niece and nephew, Colleen (Jose) Torres and Brian (Whitney) Coyle; and great nieces and nephews.
Come celebrate 79 great years Thursday, Sept. 19, 9-11 a.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside where there will be a 11 a.m. service. Interment Monument Cemetery, Beverly.
