Maria Schafer
Maria marched to the beat of her own drum. Never leaving the house without her hair and makeup done, she was best dressed at every function. Her humor was as sharp as her sense of order, and her mind remained as crisp as her perfectly ironed linens until her very last day. There wasn’t a holiday she hosted that didn’t have her famous perogies and cheesecake. Maria’s house was held to the highest standards of clean, so clean her children may have eaten off her floors once or twice. Her house fragrant and colorful with all her plants, Maria could keep any plant alive and well, even a bouquet of flowers would stay fresh for weeks. A lover of old Hollywood charm, Maria adored Elvis, Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, and Archie Bunker, famously quipping she’d only watch a show if everyone in it was already dead. Always worried about someone else, Maria would make cheesecakes and prayer shawls for her church, take care of her sons, and always her grandkids. She found her real calling later in life as a grandmother, or better called Oma. Her grandkids were her pride and joy, attending every show, sporting event, or accomplishment they had. She taught the kids to bake and make perogies, they would even do puzzles together earning her nickname “upi-side down pizzler”.
Maria is predeceased by her son John, she is survived by her sons Dave (Megan), Steve (Jennifer), step children Allen (Lou Ann) Schafer, Suzanne (Mike) Nash, and Debbie, her grandkids Morgan, Rachel, Stephen, Michael, Haley, Olivia, and Ashley, her sister Marge (Bill) Smith, along with many extended grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
