It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rosina “Rose” Smith. A long time resident of Riverside, New Jersey. Rose passed away peacefully into the arms of Our Lord on Saturday March 21st, 2026 at the age of 101. 

Rose was born on July 2nd, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Pietro and Teresina Caruso. She was the 8th child of 11. She graduated from Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, and worked for 15 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad in the accounting department. She was the fastest and most accurate employee at her job. Her supervisors would often watch Rose at work and admire her skills and accuracy.

Rose enjoyed cooking, making crafts, playing 500 Rummy, doing jigsaw puzzles, and she prayed the rosary everyday. She always made sure you had plenty to eat. Her favorite person to watch on TV was Mother Angelica. Rose was devoted to her church and was involved in church activities such as bingo and the carnival. She was often called upon to be a substitute teacher at St. Casimir school. She especially enjoyed and looked forward to attending the annual family picnics and spending time with her husband, children, siblings, nieces and nephews.

Rose is predeceased by her parents, a baby brother and sister, brothers Angelo, Raymond, Peter, and Rocky, her sisters Jean, Mamie, and Rita. She was married to the late John “Jack” Smith for 34 years before his death in 1991. She is survived by her sister Mary, her son Paul (Kathy) Smith, her daughter Theresa (Richard) Lacey, her five grandchildren Timothy (Lindsey) Monaghan, Kevin (Jennifer) Monaghan, Steven (Morgan) Smith, Shannon (Noah) Young, and Gregory Smith, her seven great-grandchildren Abigail, Ryann, Isaac, Kameryn, Ezra, Bennett, Jesse, and one great-grandchild due in June 2026. Rose was also a beloved Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

 A funeral to celebrate Rose’s life will be held on Saturday March 28th at Resurrection Parish (Holy Name site) 260 Conrow Road Delran from 9am-10:15am with a Mass of Christian burial immediately to follow at 10:30am. Interment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Rose’s name be sent to Resurrection Parish 260 Conrow Rd Delran, New Jersey or the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9929.
