Ernest “Ernie” Rossi

Ernest “Ernie” Rossi

Caring husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and beloved brother, Ernie will be remembered fondly by many.  A proud graduate of Riverside High School’s Class of 1964, Ernie served his country honorably in the United States Navy, where he spent time stationed in Hawaii (something he loved reminiscing about).  After returning home, he dedicated his career to public service as a Riverside police officer. Known by everyone in town, Ernie had a reputation unlike any other.  If you were stopped by Ernie on patrol, he would treat you fairly, often following you home to make sure you got there safely.

After retiring in 2005, Ernie spent time fishing and working on his boat with his best friend, Sonny.  He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, tending his multiple gardens, chatting with his neighbors, and jokingly taunting everyone he came into contact with. Ernie also spent many years caring for his late wife, Sharon, allowing her to spend her final days in their home, surrounded by love. To those who knew him best, Ernie was “Pop-pop Rossi”, a title that extended far beyond his own family. He had a way of making everyone feel like one of his own. His home was a place of comfort and laughter, where the cabinets were always stocked with Tastykakes and the fridge was always full of Boost.

Ernie is survived by his children Christopher (Anne) Rossi, Lisa (Scott) Urwiler, his step children Greg (Evelyn) Williams, and Mark (Erin) Williams, his grandchildren Kyndall, Kaden, Kayla, Scott “Graham” Jr., Colton, Ryder, Quinn, Delaney, Aaron, and Noah, his brothers Kenneth (Sandy) Rossi and Michael (Kathi) Rossi, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Come celebrate 80 great years on Thursday, April 9th, from 6pm-7:30pm at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where there will be a 7:30pm service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lisa Urwiler, 622 Erhardt Ave, Beverly, NJ 08010.
