“We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give” – Churchill. To say that Alma was giving would be an understatement. Fortunately no one ever asked for her home, because she’d have willingly handed it over and lived in a box. With the deepest sense of compassion, she cared for even the smallest creatures. Her morning routine consisted of saving any bugs or frogs that were trapped in her pool. She hated spiders, but wouldn’t allow them to be killed in her home. A love of cooking shows led to her ample collection of recipes, however, she was always more apt to make something simple, rustic and delicious, namely a bologna sandwich. Her sweet tooth led her to the best bakeries at any vacation spot. It was often the first stop on her many trips to LBI, Lancaster, Lake George, Bushkill Falls and Toronto. But in her younger years she found excuses simply to drive around and talk on her CB radio. With the handle “Rebel” she hit the roads in her Z28 to make new friends on the highway.rnWhile strolling the neighborhood she caught the eye of a young man named Fred. Her knew he couldn’t let her get away, and quickly struck up a conversation. They were blessed with 47 years of marriage and their 3 children: Robin Vann of Delran, Fred (Donna) of Boothwyn and Tracy Cooper (Jim) of Philadelphia. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren and her cousin Ricky Hoffmayer.rnCome celebrate 69 giving years Wednesday from 9 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside where the service will be at 11. Interment BGWCD Veterans’ Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd., Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.rn
