Anthony Canduci, a beloved father, grandfather, and husband, passed away peacefully at the age of 97. Born in Sicily, Anthony’s life was one of perseverance, love for family, and a deep gratitude for the simple things.
Anthony’s early years in Sicily were marked by hardship. Born into a poor family, he grew up doing whatever he could to survive, sometimes even fishing for food. He lived through World War 2, during which he boldly approached German soldiers and, with his courage and humility, managed to secure bread for his family. That spirit of determination and resourcefulness carried him throughout his life. In 1957, seeking a better life for his family, Anthony made the difficult decision to leave Sicily. He and his wife, Joanne, moved to America. Although they had very little, Anthony always said they felt like they had everything they needed. He was a strict but loving father who worked endlessly to provide for his family and ensure they had everything they needed. His strong work ethic, love for his family, and commitment to respect shaped everything he did.
For over 60 years, Anthony was a fixture at Tom’s Barber Shop in Beverly, where he worked as a barber until his retirement at the age of 81. A true Italian at heart, every summer he and his wife would make their famous jarred tomato sauce, preserving the flavors of their heritage.
Anthony met a pretty girl named Joanne who lived just a couple houses down from him in Sicily, and soon after they wed. They spent 71 loving years married, a testament to the enduring love and respect they shared. They traveled to the United States together and started their family there, and later in life they traveled to Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Argentina, and even the Holy Land (Israel) to visit the birthplace of Jesus.
Anthony is predeceased by his sister Maria. He is survived by his wife Joanne, their two sons Victor (Sandra) Canduci, Anthony (Kimberly) Canduci, and his grandchildren Jacquline, Victor, Ryan, Nicholas, and Thomas, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Come celebrate 97 great years on Friday March 14 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Sweeney Funeral Home in Riverside and Saturday March 15th at St. Joseph’s Church 9:30am-10:30am where there will be a 10:30am mass at Jesus the Good Shepherd, St. Joseph’s church, 805 Warren St, Beverly. My mother was Joanne’s cousin. He was a very nice man. We met years ago at my Grandma’s house on Hancock St in Girard, Ohio. May he rest in peace and we will pray for and his family
My deepest Condolences to Mrs Canduci,
to Victor, Anthony & their families. Mr. Anthony Canduci was a man who loved his family, his friends and loved the Sea. One of his regrets was not staying in the Italian Navy and make a career out of it. I never heard him say anything negative about anyone. He made me feel at home in his home. I will miss my good friend. Very happy to have met him.
Tony and Joanne were wonderful to my mom, translating letters for her from and to relatives in Campania. What a wonderful long life they enjoyed together! Blessings to the family.
What an incredible man and a remarkable life and family he had. He was so deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
I have nothing but fond, happy memories of Tony. He always had a smile and cheerful hello when we would meet. Joann and Tony were proud Godparents to my daughter Angie…. a match made in heaven! He will be missed but never forgotten.
Tony was a beautiful soul and I am grateful and blessed to have known him. He was like a grandfather to me. He brought happiness and joy to all who knew him. I will always remember his smile, his sense of humor, and how he would always proudly call me “soccer player” every time he saw me. May he rest in eternal peace.
We are holding all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
Tony was a good man and made you feel like a friend from the first time you met. God bless Joann and family in peace and comfort.

We are very sorry to hear of Tony’s passing. Tony was a very sweet man.
My dad, Alfred, & brother,Mark, were customer ‘s of his at Tony’s Barbershop. We often saw Tony working in his yard or saying his prayers at St Joseph ‘s Church. He always remembered Mark & extended a bright warm smile when we beeped the horn when we saw him in the yard
Tony will always be remembered in our prayers. The Pennise Family, Sandy & brother Mark

A good family man. Down to earth. No hidden agenda.
Will include in my prayer list. Will be missed.
