When it came to Bernie, one thing was always sure; he told it like it was. He didn’t waste time watering down the facts and never lacked the assertive nature to get his point across. But, beyond his self-assured composure was a heart of gold. No one was better at revealing it than his grandchildren. When it came to them he would do anything. For many years he owned and operated Sarlo Tool and Machine, first in Riverside and later in Delran. But, he could often be found at his home in Moorestown where he bred horses for racing or on his boat with a fishing rod in his hand.rn As a young man Bernie was introduced to a girl named Margaret (nee Donovan) while ice skating at Strawbridge Lake in Moorestown. Although she was not fond of him at first, he had the tenacity to win her over and wedding bells soon followed. Together their lives were blessed by their children: Denise Gonshery of Moorestown, Dr. Frank Sarlo (Michael Resnick) of Philadelphia and Christopher Sarlo (Kristen) of Medford, and again by their grandchildren: James and Colin Gonshery and Codi, Jaylyn, Elaina, Marielle, Preston and Brandon Sarlo. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Dare of Moorestown.rn Come celebrate Bernie’s 76 strong-willed years (Oct. 18, 1936-Jan. 26, 2013) Tuesday from 9-11 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 AM at Jesus the Good Shepherd Church (St. Peter’s Site), Riverside. Interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
