Dorothy Yansick
Dorothy was the life of every holiday gathering, a true hostess at heart who loved nothing more than bringing together family and friends to share in joyful celebration. Her main courses at holiday feasts were legendary. Her delicious creations, like turkey, stuffing and her potatoes with turnips or ham and her famous homemade potato salad brought everyone with to the table and filled their hearts with warmth and love.
In her younger years, Dorothy worked for Zurbrugg Hospital in the housekeeping department. On Weekends, Dororthy and her late husband would head to Atlantic City to reward themselves at the casinos. She still enjoyed playing casino games such as Wheel of Fortune, triple diamonds, and triple sevens in her later years.
Her home was an oasis with her lush greenery and vast array of house plants. Her love of plants didn’t end with indoor plants, but her rose garden was her crown jewel. Everyone truly loved her home for the beautiful rose garden Dorothy had. She was a true lover of nature with Fall being her favorite season. She loved to admire the fiery oranges, reds, and yellows of the changing leaves.
If her TV was on you could find her watching shows like Mike and Molly, Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, General Hospital, and Everybody Loves Raymond.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Stanley (Laura), Debra, and Mary Ann (Timothy); grandchildren: Gwen (Michael), Jenna, Tiffany (Eddie), Kenneth, Paige, Steven, and Samantha; great-grand children: Stephen, Neaveha, Barron, Jayden, Jayda, Marky, Harley, Jessie Jr, and McKenzie. She was predeceased by her son Kenneth (Amy) and her son-in-law Steven.
Come celebrate 87 years on Thursday from 10am-11am at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where there will be an 11am service. Interment St. Peters Cemetery, Riverside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: The American Cancer Society.
