Henry Lee Jackson

Henry Lee Jackson, age 85 was called into eternal rest on July 16, 2024, at Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill, New Jersey with his family at his bedside.  It is difficult to express our sadness as we mourn the loss of one who was loved and cherished. Lee, as he was affectionately known, was a kind, fun-loving and an easy-going individual. Lee was born January 27, 1939 in East St. Louis, Illinois to the parents of Cecil and Cannie Jackson.

Lee’s presence is no longer of this earth, but his memory will live on in our hearts forever. Lee came to NJ in the 1950’s by way of the U.S. Army. Where he fathered 6 kids. He always put his kids first. He joined the Riverside Police Department as one of the only two African Americans and the other being his brother-in-law. (His picture is hanging in the police dept. presently) After being with the police dept. for a few years, he made the decision to be a Tractor trailer driver.

He began his career with Repagnent Refrigeration in Pennsauken, NJ in the late 1950s and then began with Alto’s Express in 1960 and ended in the early 1990s. Then employed with P& P Transport for the next 15 years and finishing his trucking career with Alto’s Express in 2022. Giving more than 60 years of service to something he absolutely Loved. He enjoyed his Peterbilt and Mack trucks. He was affectionately known as “Dough belly”- his radio handle. And he loved to bring the ladies in the office the candy that “fell off the truck”.  He was a man of many talents and trades. Partnering with friends to own/operate a bar business, building homes, putting down Rte. 130, and excavating, just to name a few.  He loved to be the life of the party. His favorite holiday was Christmas where he would enjoy the gathering of friends, family and especially his grand kids. He would cook his favorite dish, collard greens and black eye peas and continue the holiday celebration with his Neighbors.

He was an advent animal lover and DJ his cat at home was his favorite. He was preceded in death by his father Cecil and mother Cannie, sisters- Luddie Lee, Lois Flowers, Lillian Hall and brothers-Vernon Jackson, Delmar Jackson, Otha Jackson and son Derrick Jackson.
