Richard L. Trout

Rick wasn’t a passive member of his community; when there was a need he sought to fill it. He brought warmth and food to the homeless, heard their stories and made sure they were counted with the Census. He was instrumental in several Code Blue shelters. He volunteered with the Senior Health Insurance Plan helping seniors navigate the sometimes-confusing process of picking insurance plans, volunteered with the Delanco Library Board, and fought for social justice and strived to end racism. He stayed fit completing several marathons and running every day. He was a fan of the Food Network and trying new foods, from gumbo to ostrich and everything in between. Rick was cultured, winning awards for his poetry and enjoying the local theatre scene, art museums and an eclectic mix of music. He was an avid gardener with a true green thumb, spending most of his summers outside with plants and flowers. He was a loving father who knew how to set boundaries, never raised his voice and was always patient with his kids’ unique needs. He spent his career with the Council Rock School District, expanding minds of 4th, 5th and 6th graders. He loved America’s past-time, cheering for the Yankees his entire life, even as an adult when it conflicted with the family’s loyal Phillies fans. He served the Lord at the First Presbyterian Church of Delanco and later at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.

He received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in education, and along the way met a pretty girl at West Chester University. He traveled an hour to knock on her door and get to know her better. They started dating and within two years he and Lynne would begin a 50-year marriage, blessed by their son, Scott and daughter, Karen (Sam) Garrett. He was the brother of Christopher, the late Keith Lee and David (Kathy) and uncle of Lauren, Christopher, Melanie, Rebecca and the late Josh.

Come celebrate great years Monday 10-11 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2618 New Albany Road, Cinnaminson, where there will be an 11 a.m. service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in lieu of flowers to Burlington County Animal Alliance (bcaaofnj.org), the Library Board of Delanco (delancolibrary.org) or the Covenant Presbyterian Church (covenantpreschurch.org) will be appreciated.
