Richard Wasco

Richard Wasco

Rick Wasco, a Riverside resident of 40 years and friend to all, lived life with a full heart, an admirable work ethic, and an infectious sense of humor . For 43 years, he dedicated himself to his career at Airgas. Rick was a proud member of Riverside Turners. He enjoyed coaching numerous youth baseball teams through Riverside PAL and the South Jersey Bombers where he eventually was able to watch both of his sons, Tim and Mike, play baseball at the collegiate level. Rick loved cheering for his favorite sports teams—the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Tigers, and Notre Dame football. His Riverside roots ran deep. He was named Citizen of the Year in 2008 through VFW Post 3020, a title that honored the countless lives he touched through his selfless acts of service. Rick was known for his unwavering commitment to friends, family, and his community.

Rick was a prankster at heart, always ready to tease and instigate a little fun. He found his true calling later in life as a grandfather to Ava, Carter, and Max. They were his pride and joy which he would do absolutely anything for. They knew him as their biggest supporter, always showing up with a surprise, usually a milkshake or a new toy. Rick would say “Go Vikings” as the grandchildren would playfully respond “Go Eagles, Vikings Stink”. His signature headbutts were an affectionate family trademark, adding to the fun.

Rick loved holidays. He would coordinate large Thanksgiving meals, shower his grandkids with gifts on Christmas, and orchestrate the most epic Easter egg hunts. His joy for cooking made every family gathering special. He met his soulmate, Cindy, at Riverside Lanes in 1982. Just this year, they celebrated 40 years of marriage with a dream cruise to Alaska, marking their enduring love.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; sons Tim (Allie) and Mike (Crystal); grandchildren Ava, Carter, and Max; his brother Glenn (Cindy); nieces Lauren (Matt) Mann and Brooke; and nephew Stephen.

Join Rick’s family and friends in celebrating his life on Sunday, October 20th, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Riverside Turners, 300 Rancocas Ave., Riverside, NJ 08075. Rick’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial contributions be made to the Wasco Family for future charitable contributions throughout the local community.
