Charmaine “Sherry” Garbe

Charmaine “Sherry” Garbe

Sherry was a woman of remarkable inner strength and quiet resilience. Though she never pursued a career in nursing, she possessed the heart, compassion, and instinct of a lifelong caregiver. Her life was spent in service to those she loved, always putting others before herself, most notably her daughter Wendy, with whom she shared a uniquely close bond. Sherry and Wendy were inseparable; living together, caring for one another, and sharing in life’s joys and challenges side by side. A dedicated and loving mother, Sherry never missed an important moment in her children’s lives. From school events and sports games to graduations and holidays, she was always there: supportive, present, and proud. For more than 40 years, she cooked for her children with love and care. Her signature dishes being strombolis and macaroni salad, which became staples of family gatherings.

Sherry was the heart of every celebration, hosting unforgettable Sunday dinners and cherished Christmas Eve traditions. Her home, especially after the addition of the family pool, became a hub of laughter, joy, and togetherness. Her heart beat in Eagles green and Phillies red. One of her proudest memories was watching the Phillies win the World Series in 2008 and attending the victory parade in Philadelphia with Wendy.

She loved warm places: sunny islands, sandy beaches, salty air. Whether it was St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Ocean City Maryland, or a day trip to LBI, Sherry chased the sun like it was her soulmate. Later in life she cruised through Caribbean waters with her siblings and their spouses, laughing, relaxing, and collecting memories like seashells.

Sherry met the love of her life John while the two were in High School. They wed quickly after graduation and spent 33 wonderful years together, a marriage rooted in friendship, laughter, and love.

Sherry is predeceased by her husband John, her brother James Carruthers and her daughter Wendy. She is survived by her mother Anna Mae Rodgers, her son John (Tracey) Garbe, her siblings Cindy Pulley and Ron Carruthers, and her niece that she was very close to, Lisa (John) Wilson. Sherry will also be missed by many other close relatives and friends.
