Maj. Maj. Daniel Filigno (retired) of Willingboro passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013.
Daniel was born in Allentown, Pa., where he met and married his wife and best friend of 53 years, Patricia Hoderman.
He attended Penn State and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering, and ROTC as a second lieutenant. He then graduated from Connelly Air Force Base in Waco, Texas, and entered the U.S. Air Force as a navigator at Maguire Air Force Base. Daniel served his country for 22 years, including a tour in Vietnam, flying C-130 Blackbirds.
After the military, he worked for 10 years with ServiceMaster, followed by substitute teaching in Maple Shade, Burlington and Florence townships, until he retired in 2009.
He loved playing cards, golfing, fishing, baseball, and watching the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He always looked forward to a trip with his wife to the Atlantic City casinos.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Patricia; his sister, Deanna Yenser; and his four children, Cheryl Ianieri (John) of Southampton, Lorie Dennis of Conshohocken, Pa., daughter, Deanne Hamlin (John) of Delran, son Daniel of Willingboro; and five grandchildren, Shawn, Shannon, Taylor, Maxwell and Megan.
Come celebrate 73 great years from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, in Sweeney Funeral Home, 478 Cooper St., Beverly, where there will be a service at noon.
