Dave E. Southwick

Dave was the ultimate jokester and life of the party, he was known for his infectious humor, endless laughter, and wit that could light up any room. He began his career at Hoeganaes as an office worker and worked his way up to driving tractor trailers for years, and then became a supervisor until retiring proudly after a long and successful tenure. Dave had a passion for NASCAR, fulfilling a dream by driving on legendary tracks like Indianapolis, Daytona, and Pocono. At home, he could always be found in front of the TV, immersed in YouTube videos or his favorite shows, enjoying a Boost and a bag of chips, while being the neighborhood watch at the same time.

Dave had a special bond with his grandchildren, and niece and nephew. He was fondly known as “Pop Pop”, but he was the greatest Pop Pop. His grandkids loved all his silly antics and he would always play with them. He was their biggest supporter; there for every sporting event, show, and activity, cheering them on. His seven person van was nicknamed “Big Red” and was the site of countless day trips and adventures at “Camp Couple Hairs”, aptly named for his famously sparse head of hair. Every Christmas, he embraced his uncanny resemblance to Santa Claus, donning the suit and hosting unforgettable Christmas Eve parties.
In 1962, Dave met the love of his life, Lorraine, at a friend’s wedding. They dated for five years before marrying, spending 60 incredible years together. Their secret to a happy marriage- tolerance, a great sense of humor, and lots of pinot grigio. Together, they cherished annual trips to Long Beach Island and, in his retirement, enjoyed two unforgettable weeks in Florida.

Dave is survived by his wife Lorraine, their children David Jr (Amy), Sue (Greg Sr), and Dan, and his seven grandchildren Gregory Jr, Nicholas, Owen, Zachary, Olivia, Daniel and Madison, his sister Nancy Robertson (Mark), his brother-in-law Bob Phillips (Nancy) and niece and nephew Jayme and Bobby who were like extended grandchildren to him.

Come celebrate 80 great years on Thursday January 23rd for a 10:30 am mass at Jesus the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Joe’s site, 805 Warren Street, Beverly, friends and family may gather after the mass at the church to pay their respects. Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Samaritan Gift Processing Center P.O. Box 71425, Philadelphia, PA 19176-1425.
