Fred did not need to travel the world in search of what he needed, it was all within his home in Delran. Always focused on his family, nothing was more important to him. Any excuse to spend time with his daughter, Bonnie, would suffice. In her younger years, he often treated her to nature hikes, and would even take her swimming, although he couldn’t swim himself. And when blessed with a grandson, Fred was always anxious to spend time with him. For Fred Grandfathering was more than sending a birthday card once a year, it was summer days spent fishing and long afternoons working on his grandson’s first car. Although his garden yielded beautiful gladiolas and dahlias, there’s nothing he couldn’t grow. Whether it be tomatoes, string beans or potatoes, he never needed to shop at a grocery store. And while his younger years saw him bring home many a meal while hunting, it also was an excuse to keep his hound dogs. Didn’t matter if it was a basset, beagle or just a plain hound dog, his home was never complete without one. rnIn the early 1940s Fred was introduced to a young woman named Gertrude (nee Neuman). Although it took a bit of wooing to win her over, their 69-year marriage is a testament that blind dates don’t always end badly. Together they’d be blessed by their daughter Bonnie Soloman and her husband Jerry, again by their grandson Joseph Soloman and his wife Linda and her daughter Danielle, and by his beloved great-granddaughter Jill Alyssa Solomon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.rnCome celebrate 97 family-oriented years Friday from 10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 11.
