Obituary on Howard W. Schmidtrnrnrn”There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind.” – Washington Irving. On Howard’s wall you’d find a 91 inch sailfish – after he caught it all he would say is that’s enough fishing for today. His time on the water didn’t differ much from the rest of his life: Understated, diligent hard work. He was a quiet and shy guy, lying in wait to deliver a potent one-liner. He had an innate knowledge of mechanical things: Westinghouse engineers would yield to his thoughts on the newest light bulb innovations and there was never any need for a repairman at his house. He could fix anything and taught his son and daughter to do the same. When Westinghouse closed he retired and became a house husband. His home sparkled. He was a member of Gothic Fraternal Masonic Lodge No. 270, arnDeacon at Morrisville Presbyterian Church, an ambulance volunteer and firefighter at Union Fire Co in Morrisville, Pa.rnA young lady named Christine (nee Ketrow) would let him cry on her shoulder after her best friend broke up with him. After a short stint in the military a romance ensued. Their 63 year marriage yielded two children: Bill of Australia and Sandy Lykens (Terry) of Logan Twp.; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.rnCome celebrate 83 great years Tuesday from 10AM at Daley Life Celebration Studio, 1518 Kings Hwy., Swedesboro where there will be an 11AM Masonic Service and storytime service at Noon.
