Jeffrey W. Schneider

Jeffrey W. Schneider

Ask anyone to describe Jeff and, more often than not, the response would be, “a helluva nice guy” or “one of the truly good guys.” Jeff died suddenly on February 10, 2025 from complications of COPD.

Jeff was always happiest being around family and good friends. A huge sports fan, you would often find Jeff watching his favorite teams (UNC Tarheels, Phillies, Red Sox, Eagles and 49ers) and letting the refs know exactly how he felt from his couch!  When he wasn’t watching sports, he was playing them. In his younger years, it was baseball, softball and bowling; as an adult he was an avid golfer and fisherman. A proud lifelong resident of Delanco, Jeff loved his monthly breakfasts with his friends from the RHS class of 1963 as well as attending the annual parades especially enjoying the string bands. His home away from home was Wildwood Crest, a place he visited many times a year with his family. He loved going to his favorite shore restaurants, making friends at the pool, visiting Fudge Kitchen and was obsessed with charter boat fishing. Jeff was proud to be known to many as “Catfish” for the highly successful J & J Catfish Tournament that he ran from 1987 to 1992 with his lifelong best friend, Jim Loring. Jeff worked for the US Postal Service for thirty-three years and met many people who became good friends for life.

Jeff was a Gold Star son, pre-deceased by his father Sgt, Warren Schneider, a hero killed in action in WWII eight days after Jeff was born. He honored his father’s memory throughout his life. Pre-deceased by his beloved mother and father Gerrie & Charlie Hook, his mother-in-law Mae Gatti, as well as his sister Judie and sister-in-law Linda.

Jeff met the love of his life, Janie (nee Gatti), at the Riverside Bowling Lanes in 1975. Together they spent 49 years enjoying date nights, traveling, sporting events and spending time at home watching Survivor or fighting over which movie to watch. He was a devoted dad to his daughters Michele Schneider of Oakland Park, Fl, and Jillian Carvalho (her husband Rich) of Mount Laurel, NJ. He is also survived by Janie’s brothers and sisters, Dennis (Trish), sister-in-law Debbie (late Tommy), Donna, Ann, Terry (Vince), Michael (Allysa) and Mark (Dee) and numerous treasured cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charities closest to his heart: Shriner’s Hospital, The Animal Welfare Association (AWA) in Voorhees from where they adopted their cherished rescue, Harley who will miss him forever, or any animal shelter or rescue of your choice.

Come celebrate 80 wonderful years on Monday, February 17, from 10am-11:30am at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside NJ, where there will be an 11:30am service to share your favorite memories of Jeff.
