John “Jack” Lefferts

Jack passed away Wednesday April 3, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Jack never lacked a sense of loyalty. When it came to his family, he was always the first in line to offer help when it was needed. He showed the same dedication to the Burlington County Times during his many years supervising the camera room there. Although he was normally content to listen to others, his job was one of the few topics that awakened his talkative side. In his youth he had a devotion to the Boy Scouts that was reinvigorated when he oversaw his son, Steven, rise all the way to becoming an Eagle Scout. His involvement with the Knights of Columbus extended beyond simply attending meetings, he served as the Grand Knight for the St. John Neumann Council 1436. At his home in Delran, Jack could often be found growing tomatoes, eggplant and peppers in his garden. But, it was here he kept his model train collection. He sought out anything made by Lionel, even learning how to use eBay to help secure these finds. It didn’t even matter if they were in poor condition, he always found a way to restore them to their most pristine state.

Jack had an undying devotion to the US Air Force. Having enlisted in the early 1950s, he considered making a career of it. However, it was about this time that he met a young woman named Lillian (Waters), a Riverside gal. In 1956, they began their life together as husband and wife. Together, they were blessed by their children: John, Kevin (Debbie) and Steven (Kimberly), all of Delran, and again by their grandchildren: Connor and Abigail. Jack is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his parents: Theresa and J. Herbert Lefferts, his brother James and his sister, Miriam.

Come celebrate Jack’s 79 wonderful years (Dec. 30, 1933-Apr. 3, 2013) Monday from 8 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, where the service will be at 11 AM. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made either to Jesus the Good Shepherd Church 101 Middleton St., Riverside, NJ 08075 or to Acacia Hospice 902 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington, NJ 08016.
