John E. Mongon Jr., age 70, of Delanco, formerly of Riverside, passed away on December 30, 2012. He was born on December 24, 1942, in Princeton, NJ.rnJohn graduated from Riverside High School, Class of 1962. He was an avid athlete playing both on the State Champion Varsity Football and Basketball Teams. John also proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. rnJohn was a former deputy mayor of Riverside from 1970 – 1974; a former Riverside PAL Basketball Coach; and a volunteer bartender at numerous Riverside Fire House Social Events. John was an avid card player; he enjoyed his monthly poker games with the “Outhouse 5 plus 2”. He was a parishioner of Jesus, The Good Shepherd Parish.rnHe was preceded in death by his parents Margaret (Boyd) and John E. Mongon Sr.; his granddaughter, Melissa Denise; and his grandson, Michael Ian Tuscano.rnJohn is survived by his two sons: John (Debbie) Mongon of Riverside, and Michael (Katy) Mongon of Delran.rnHe is also survived by his siblings: Michele (Ken) McDonald of Middletown, NJ; Mark (Lynn) Mongon of Ridgewood, NJ; and Maureen (Terry) Bacola of North Arlington, NJ.rnJohn was also blessed with several grandchildren: Nicole (Dean) Potts, John (Melanie), Gregg, Marissa, Dominic and Antonio Mongon; and his great-grandchildren: Laci, Dean, Brielle, and John Thomas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.rnJohn is also survived by sweetie Sharon Tuscano, and her children Michelle (Ed ) Kneuker, Kim (Joe) Angelastro, and Michael (Jeannie) Tuscano; and grandchildren: Ian, Eric, Todd, Johnny, Jordan, and Vivianna.rnJohn is also survived by his former wife, Joanne P. Mongon of Riverside; and longtime friend and teammate, Bill ‘Hoss’ Hoffman of Delanco.rnLiturgy of Christian Burial will be said on Saturday, January 5th at 10:30 a.m. at the Parish of Jesus, the Good Shepherd (St. Peter’s Site), Riverside.rnRelatives and friends are cordially invited to attend John’s visitation and share their memories and stories about him on Friday, January 4th from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro St., Riverside, NJ 08075 and also on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will follow the Mass at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Riverside.rnIn Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s honor to “The Mongon Family Riverside H.S.
