Originally from Hazelton, PA, Joe spent most of his life in Delanco, Edgewater Park and Hainesport, NJ. He was proud to have served in the US Army. He was a diesel mechanic by trade, but family was his priority. He met the love of his life, Janice (nee Lynch), at work. A mutual friend dared them to go on a date. They married 4 months later and spent 59 years together. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a proud dad and an even prouder Pop Pop. He enjoyed family barbeques (especially if hot dogs and Jersey corn were on the menu!) and attending any event in which the grandkids were involved. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, drawing, reading the newspaper or browsing a bookstore.
Joe is survived by his wife Janice (nee Lynch); daughters: Michelle Carlis and Suzanne (Ron) Slominski-Booth; grandchildren: Steven Carlis (Brittani), Jason Slominski, and Amanda Slominski; 3 plus great-grandchildren: Damian, Athena, Luna, and baby Steven Jr. on the way; his brothers Anthony Carlis and Leo Carlis, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life this Sunday from 10am-noon, at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside, NJ 08075, where there will be a noon service. Interment will be held on Monday, 10:30am at Brigadier William C. Doyle Veteran’s Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: samaritannj.org/giving or alz.org
