Margaret M Gatti of Delanco New Jersey passed peacefully in her sleep on August 20th 2016. She was 94 years old. Margaret, known as Marge, lived a log and fruitful life. Astonishingly, at age 9 she was declared dead after being hit by a car, only to be found later still breathing in the morgue at the local hospital. The world is a better place for her life as she went on to live and serve in the community for another 85 years. Delanco has lost one of their finest members. If a volunteer was needed Margaret came forward. At the age of 16 Margebecame a Sunday school teacher at the Delanco First Presbyterian Church. In her later years she served as an elder as well. She was a Girl Scout leader for MANY years. Following the McCullough family tradition, she automatically joined the Ladies Auxiliary of the Delanco Fire Company, and was a life time member.
She was an active member of the American Legion and could be seen for years selling poppy’s to support our vets. Several trees were saved because Margaret was on the Tree Commission. She was on a board for juveniles, and she acted as a judge for children introuble. Marge was a member of the Riverside Historical Society, Delanco JFK Democratic Club and never met a senior citizen group she didn’t join. Shedidn’t sit on the sidelines. She gave so much to Delanco she was given The Peter DeAngelo award for service to the community. When someone died, Margaret was there with a cake. She was a feisty grandmother who took the grandkids on road trips to Niagara Falls, Disney Flordia and California, and Mexico. Her preparation as a community leader came with her graduation of Palmyra HS 1941. Margaret was the wife of the late Nicholas, and is survived by her son Paul (Carolyn); a daughter Mary (John) Girifalco, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; and was pre deceased by a daughter Margaret “Peggy” McGinnis, her brothers Elmer, George, Chester and Ralph and her sisters Helenand Eleanor.
