Marietta Welsh Kohler

(December 28, 1961 – February 29, 2024)

Marietta Welsh Kohler, born on December 28, 1961, the youngest daughter of Dr. Albert E Welsh and Mary McGee Welsh, departed from this world on February 29, 2024. Marietta brought joy and warmth to those around her throughout her life.

Marietta was raised in Philadelphia and after having her two daughters she decided she wanted to move to a smaller town. She visited Delanco and fell in love with a house there. It was the early 2000s when they finally settled and have stayed ever since.

She had a deep fascination for history, often embarking on adventures to explore historical landmarks, seeking out the echoes of the past and the spirits that lingered there. Marietta acquired all the equipment and tools for ghost hunting, and even traveled around the east coast in search for haunting spirits. One of her favorite spots to “ghost hunt” was in Gettysburg, PA. When she wasn’t out hunting for ghosts, she was staying in watching her favorite crime TV shows or an old movie. She was also experimental in her culinary ways. She enjoyed being behind the stove, but you never quite knew what delicious creation was going to come out of it.

Marietta had a deep affection for others and a boundless love for life. She loved people, her family, and her many friends. She made it a point to keep in touch with her vast network of loved ones. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures, including her several cats and her loyal dog. She loved to write and draw. Her favorite color was the vibrant purple, reflecting her vibrant and lively personality.

One of Marietta’s most cherished symbols was the dragonfly, which she adored for its beauty and its symbolism of change. Her love for the dragonfly was a testament to her belief in the potential for growth and transformation in life and was often reflected in her decor, and the jewelry she wore.

Marietta embraced life’s many challenges with courage and resilience. Her passing on Leap Day, while undergoing a liver transplant, is a fitting reminder of her personality, courage, and willingness to take a leap of faith in pursuit of a better tomorrow. This day also underscores the uniqueness of Marietta and the profound impact she had on those around her.

Above all, Marietta was a compassionate soul who cared deeply for all those she encountered. Her commitment to caring for all people was evident in the wide circle of friends she gathered throughout her life. Marietta’s ability to touch lives, her kindness, and her unwavering support for those around her were her true legacies. Her dry wit and infectious laughter endeared her to countless friends who will miss her immensely.

Marietta is survived by her daughters, Katherine Kohler Nagle (Michael) and Bridget Kohler, who were her pride and joy and her beloved grandson, Jack (John) Nagle, who she adored beyond all else and who brought immense happiness into her life. Alongside her immediate family, Marietta is survived by her devoted partner, Jack Joyce, whose companionship enriched her days.

She is further survived by her sister, Maureen Welsh Carmichael (Joseph), and her nieces Ann Rodavitch Malhotra (Tim), Victoria Welsh (Edward), Alex Carmichael (Michael), Avery Montes de Oca (Norman), her brother Albert Welsh, and numerous cousins, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her oldest sister, Mary Ann (Welsh) Rodavitch who passed away just this past August.  She will be tremendously missed by everyone whose lives she touched and will forever remain in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday March 16th at 10:30am at Resurrection Parish (St. Casimir’s church) in Riverside. A reception at the Edgewater Park Elks Lodge will immediately follow.
