Mary Kilcher

Eleanor Roosevelt once remarked “since you get more joy out of giving joy to others, you should put a good deal of thought into the happiness that you are able to give”. Mary may well have been the embodiment of that statement. She was a simple and gracious woman who kept her burdens to herself, but treasured sharing joyful times with her family and friends. A wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Mary balanced this responsibility devotedly during a forty year career working in restaurants and industry in the Riverside area. Perhaps she developed this work ethic when she worked at her parent’s restaurant, The Bluebird on Lafayette St., or maybe when she and her husband owned Michele’s Restaurant on Pavillion Avenue. Possibly the only time she put her feet up was on her two trips to Greece, a voyage that any proud Greek would love to take. But she always had time to focus on family. Her years spent as a doting grandmother were her favorite.rnHer time in a restaurant gave her more than a paycheck. It’s there she met a young chef named Albert. Together they’d be blessed with their daughter Michele Reilly (James) of Lawrenceville, NJ, and their grandchildren Megan Elizabeth and Allison Mary. She is the sister of Evangeline“Vangie” Demetoglous, Helen Bauer, the late Demetra Gatti and the late Steven Demetoglous. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Rosemary and Jeff Stokes of Marlton, Carol and Bill Battaglia of Moorestown, Susan and Jerry Satkofsky of Cinnaminson and Jim and Lisa Gatti of Delran, as well as many great nieces and nephews.rnCome celebrate 81 wonderful years Friday 9:30-11:30 AM at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside.
