Robert R. Wickward, Sr.
For Robert, still waters ran deep. He never was a loud man but he always had an enormous heart. A butcher his whole life, he worked everywhere from Mattson’s Market in Burlington to, most recently at Pathmark in Edgewater Park where he retired. But, he was always happy to volunteer those skills; he often butchered deer for local hunters without cost. He could build or fix pretty much anything. He never needed a manual, he could just figure it out. The home in Delanco that he built for his family is a standing testament to this. However this also revealed his kind nature. Whenever a friend or neighbor had an issue with their house he was always there to fix the problem.
After Robert returned from serving the US Navy aboard the USS Fulton, his sister introduced him to a young woman named Doris (nee Lowden). As blind dates go it could have been better; she was not happy when he spilled ketchup on her. Nevertheless he was able to win her over, and by 1955 they were wed. Before her passing in 1989, their lives were blessed by their children: Debbie Reindl (Rich) of Mt. Laurel and Robert, Jr. of Delanco and again by their granddaughters: Kristin Adams (Kevin) of Palmyra and Kelly Silberman (Mike) of Delray Beach, Fl. He is also survived by his great-grandson, Nicholas.
Come celebrate Robert’s 81 wonderful years (June 7, 1932-June 28, 2013) Wednesday from 10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside, where the service will be at 11. Interment in Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Center PO Box 820 Browns Mills, NJ 08015.
