Roy’s spirit left this life November 10, 2015 to reach eternal peace. Roy, or Muzzy as many of his friends know him, was born May 15, 1953 in Sewaren, New Jersey to Ruth and Leroy Simonsen.
After graduating from Woodbridge High School Muzzy attended The College of New Jersey (then Trenton State College) and earned a degree in English Literature. Muzzy pledged Chi Rho Sigma fraternity and enjoyed the bonds of brotherhood throughout his life. Muzzy was employed by several companies throughout his professional career in management roles.
After a number of strokes Muzzy overcame his disabilities living independently in Whiting, New Jersey. An internet wizard, Muzzy was a newshound and would communicate daily with his many friends. He was instrumental in tracking down brothers of Chi Rho Sigma who in many cases had not spoken with or seen each other for over forty years. Attendance at the Chi Rho annual picnic was due in great part to Muzzy’s reaching out and motivating brothers to attend. Muzzy continued many friendships with individuals he worked with over the years and treasured them dearly. He enjoyed the friendship of many neighbors and others who were part of his daily life.
Muzzy had a great wit and was very well read. Pinochle was his game. He could spin quite a tale and promptly retort to any and all “busting” with equal measure! When discussing the Yankees, Rangers, Knicks or the New York Football Giants one always had to be ready for a serious and articulate conversation. Muzzy enjoyed many hours of rooting on his favorite teams.
Summer months meant gardening. Muzzy enjoyed creating flower gardens around his home as well as tending to a productive vegetable garden each year. He shared his produce with neighbors and friends being the generous person he was. Muzzy supported many charities.
A celebration of Muzzy’s life will be held Sunday, November 22, 2015 between 11am and 2pm. Information about the celebration can be had by e-mailing [email protected] for complete details.
