Ruth M. Scott (nee Maley)

Although it is unknown who first said “family is where life begins and love never ends”, but it could have easily been written about Ruth. Family was more important than anything else in her life. She instinctively remembered everyone’s birthday. But, a card was never enough; she always called to sing Happy Birthday. When it came to the grandkids, she was so giving that even Santa had a hard time keeping up. As they grew up, it was a certainty that when they had a swim meet, football game or a graduation their grandmother would be in attendance. She was meticulous about her home, but incomplete without company. Whether it was the many holidays that Ruth hosted, or a Mother’s Day gathering, all were welcome. It was just one of the many ways she shared her generosity.

In the late 1940s, Ruth was introduced to a young man named Howard “Scotty” Scott. This was not love at first sight, and it took a lot of persistence, charm and even some dance lessons for Scotty to win her over. However, from there the two were inseparable. Before his passing in 2006, their lives were blessed by their children: Mary Ann Scott (Ted Wright) of Williamstown, Patricia Steiner (Michael) of Hainesport, Bob (Susan Larson) of West Chester, PA and Jenna “Donna” Scott (Anson Wright) of Portland, OR, and again by their grandchildren: Jessica Lorenz, Matthew Steiner, Tracie Rodriguez, Jeffrey Wright, Brian Wright, Johanna Wurster, Quinton Wright, Caitlin Wright, Evan Scott, Miles Scott, Kelia Scott and Monet Richter. Ruth is also survived by her 10 great-grandchildren.

Come celebrate Ruth’s 85 wonderful years (June 15, 1929-Sept. 20, 2014) Thursday from 6-8 PM and Friday from 9-10 AM at the Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Friday 10:30 AM at Resurrection Parish (Holy Name Site), Delran, with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mt. Holly.
