Tom Cannuli

Tom was a quiet guy, but knew just about everyone in the area and everyone knew him. He kept everyone in Beverly looking sharp; Tom’s Barber Shop catered to over 40 years of customers. “The shop” as many call it, was full of a lifetime of treasures: a 12 foot black marlin he caught on one of his yearly trips to Mexico, tons of photographs from around town and pictures of his children and grandchildren, and you couldn’t leave without a handful of Double Bubble.You’d be greeted with a warm “Hey Buddy” on the way through the door and receive more than a great haircut; Tom listened to your problems and you knew you were being heard. His customers became his friends. So much of an institution that items from “the shop” are now located at the Beverly Historical Society. But he really came into his own as a grandfather who did everything for his grandchildren. There wasn’t a sporting event, school concert, or graduation he wasn’t front row at. Tom was a creature of habit; everything at a certain time on a certain day and you could spot his bright shiny red car around town like clockwork. He was active in his community; Beverly A.C., exempt Hope Hose firefighter and an avid fan of all local sports teams, spending many an evening watching local baseball and softball games (there isn’t a snack bar in Burlington County that didn’t know him). Tom spent many years as an umpire for slow pitch softball and baseball (it was in his blood) and he was a member of the 1953 Burlington City Baseball 14-15 year old team that competed in the Little Bigger League World Series in Trenton. Tom spent the spring and summer cheering for his Phillies and when the fall came around he would be glued to the TV watching college football and the NFL, always cheering on and also yelling at the Philadelphia Eagles, Tom spent many years as an Eagles season ticket holder.

He is survived by his children, Monica (Stephen) Byrne and Tom Cannuli; grandchildren James and Karli Byrne; and siblings John (Dolores) and Karen Wajda; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Come celebrate 83 great years, Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 9-10 a.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, Beverly. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 10:30 a.m. at Jesus the Good Shepherd Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, Beverly. Interment private.
