William H. Strough Sr.
William H. Strough Sr.
Known by many as Pop, and by his friends and associates as Bill, he was one remarkable man. Born December 3, 1941 in Philadelphia, Bill Strough Sr grew up in a large family, married his sweetheart, Lillian (nee Biegenwald) and started his own family by the time he was 19. His work as a test center administrator took him all over the world, and to 49 of the 50 United States. Curious, intelligent, and handy, Bill was a natural problem solver, inventing products and solutions that showcased his ability to make his ideas come to life. Bill served in the US Air Force and contributed in civilian life for children, serving as a court appointed special advocate. He and Lillian fostered vulnerable children, providing a stable loving home for as short or as long as was needed. His passion for golf was shared by the many partners and clubs who found Bill a joy to play with. A self-made man, Bill recently took up teaching himself to play the piano. He loved playing card games, telling jokes, and making everyone feel loved and happy.
He is survived by his wife and children, Bill Jr (Rita), Robert, Steven, David (Robin), and Wenda Bonazza (Frank), and by the grandson he raised as a son, Nicholas (Stephanie), by 15 grand-children and 21 great grandchildren. Bill was 84 years old.
Come celebrate 84 great years Friday May 29, 4-6 p.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside where there will be a 6 p.m. service.
