Glenn Richard Edwards

The family of Glenn Richard Edwards is deeply saddened to announce his passing on June 11, 2026. Born on June 5, 1940, in Riverside, NJ, Glenn lived a full and remarkable life in which he loved deeply and was loved deeply back, and would tell everyone he met how blessed he was.

Glenn graduated from Riverside HS in 1958, where he met the love of his life, Patricia Berger. They were married at 20 and were blessed with nearly 66 wonderful years of marriage. He saw her in a HS play when he was a Junior and she was a Senior and told his basketball teammates that he was going to marry that girl! His standing joke was that they lasted so long because they worked different shifts, but he really did adore Pat. Glenn graduated from Glassboro State College with a teaching degree where he was also a standout basketball player. His picture remains on the gym
wall to this day. He was very proud of the fact that he was 5’6 and could still reach the rim! Glenn and Pat enjoyed the 50’s together, attending all the dances and ice cream socials. They moved to Edgewater Park in 1962 and have made wonderful life long friends and memories there.

Glenn was a dedicated Math teacher for 39 years at Ridgway Middle School in Edgewater Park spending a short time in in between at Delran Middle School. As a teacher, he was loved and respected by all and to this day still had previous students remembering him for how he shaped their lives. He was very active in Edgewater Park, coaching basketball and soccer. He often spent time playing basketball with some of the best Phillies baseball players such as Greg Luzinski, Mike Schmidt, and Larry Bowa.

During the summers, Glenn managed the Trident Swim Club, later known as Tall Pines. He grew up working as a life guard at the Jersey Shore where he once walked from Wildwood to Sea Isle just to spend time with Pat! He loved being outdoors and feeding the birds, earning the name Bird Whisperer. He would feed the birds everyday and hundreds would wait for him in his yard much to the dismay of Pat! Glenn loved to talk to everyone he met. We used to tell him he didn’t know the person he was talking to and he would say “I do now!”

Although Glenn loved teaching and sports, his heart and the best part of his life were his children and grandchildren. He would tell everyone he met, sometimes numerous times, that he has 4 kids, 19 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 angel great-grandchildren. He lived for them. He was the most loving and devoted father, always encouraging his children to do their best and be kind to everyone. He loved his grandchildren just as much, participating in their sports, helping raise them to be successful in life. One of the best times together was beach vacations with all the family in Ocean City, trips to Disney, and Christmas parties at his house with all the kids! Glenn also loved his two special dogs, Patches, who he is now reunited with, and his special baby, Snuggles. They were very spoiled and truly loved by him.

Glenn and Pat loved to travel. Hawaii, Las Vegas to see Celine Dion, and several cruises were among their favorites. He enjoyed spending Saturday mornings going to the Parx Racetrack with Sandy and Jim to spend time with their horses, one which they named Mr. Edwards after him. Every Friday night he’d enjoy a nice dinner out with Pat and Scott, searching for the best French onion soup or Prime Rib. He and Glenn Jr would have long talks about adventures in the Air Force when he was driving him back to McGuire AFB after a weekend home. He could also be found on the opposing team’s sidelines at Michael’s soccer games harassing the defenders of the other team to the point they would start yelling back at him.
His family was his world and he let everyone know it.

Glenn was pre-deceased by his parents, John Alfred and Mary Edwards, his two brothers, John(Al) and Richard, his two great grandchildren, Matthew Santucci Jr, and Dylan Santucci. He was immensely loved by, and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Patricia, his children, Sandy (Jim) Long, Glenn (Maria), Scott (Elizabeth), and Michael (Anna). He was adored by his grandchildren, Jessica, Erica, Anthony, Kelcie, Andrew, Glenn, Alyssa, Justin, Briana, Christopher, Alaina, Adil, Joshua, Brielle, Kyle, Jeff, Heather, Matt, and Bob, and 26 great grandchildren.

As per Glenn’s wishes, he will be cremated. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family June 27th from 12-2pm at Sweeny Funeral Home 337 Bridgeboro St. Riverside NJ where there will be a 2 p.m. service. Donations may be made to Burlington County Animal Shelter in his name in lieu of flowers.
