Joseph Solomon

He was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. Joe thought nothing of dropping everything to lend a hand. A stray cat could do no better than to show up on his doorstep; he had a soft side for all animals and rescued his fair share. Even his television viewing reflected his love for animals: he got a kick out of watching Billy the Exterminator relocate animals rather than kill them. He joked that he wanted to own a giraffe and a pink flamingo but never did. Joe was a wiz behind the stove and cooked a little of everything: initially for self-preservation but became great at everything from seafood to steak and got his finicky kids to try all kinds of dishes. He loved horror films: everything from Hell Raiser to Killer Clowns from Outer Space. For fun he liked to fish: on a deep sea trip he won for first catch, most and biggest. He did a lot of camping: his daughter once lost her fishing pole on a trip and Joe fashioned one out of a stick, a string and a leaf. She even caught a fish with it. And he loved RC vehicles: cars, boats and even a helicopter that he promptly wrecked. He could fix just about anything (including people) and used his skills as an auto technician scheduling repairs for Holman. Homan even adopted Fridays as Hawaiian shirt day in his honor: Joe had so many he could go a month without wearing the same one twice, the louder the better. He loved old country: Hank Williams, Charlie Daniels but Garth Brook sneaked in from time to time. He was a graduate of Delran High School and resided in Willingboro.
Dressed as Riff Raff he’d meet a pretty girl named Linda at a showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show. He’d become her knight in shining armor, and they’d share a 21-year marriage. He is survived by his daughters, Jill Solomon-Eickhoff (Dan) and Danielle Solomon (Nick Gibau); his father, Jerome Solomon and mother of his daughter, Jill, Patricia Eigenbrood. He was pre-deceased by his grandparents Frederick and Gertrude Heaton and his mother, Bonnie Solomon.
Come celebrate 57 great years Monday, December 11, 5 to 7 p.m. at Sweeney Funeral Home, Riverside where there will be a 7 p.m. service.
